New Feature Wine: Headwaters
2016 Latta Vino ‘headwaters’ nebbiolo, pyrenees
This is a special treat…. An absolutely outstanding Australian nebbiolo.
Medium bodied, clear and fresh, raspberry, red cherry, leather and tabacco.
Dusty red brick tannins giving great length + grip.
Enjoy this terrifically complex wine with our pork + pear ravioli.
Unfined, Unfiltered, Un-tinkered….

Latta Headwaters Nebbiolo 2016

Woah! A Latta wine in a claret bottle! Exciting in itself. Anyway, not sure why, but I feel less comfortable judging Australian Nebbiolo than I do with wines from Italy. Familiarity, I guess, though the same rules apply to both. Oh, let me just do my best.
Juicy cherry, sweet almond, dried flowers, white pepper, mint and liquorice.
Medium-bodied, clear and fresh, raspberry and red cherry to taste, with savoury new leather/tobacco flavours in play. Spice too.
Tannin is of the ‘brick dust’ kind, or so I like to say. Pulls dry and long on the finish, the tannin something of a highlight. A very impressive Aussie Neb.

Geez I like this. More of a classicism here than expected. Very long, fine-shapely tannins. Rings the bell for ‘excellent’. Very good review and words by GW. 94
